Orion, the Hunter, has his sights set on a wide variety of prey, including the Taurus constellation.
It is also symbolic of the white bull that King Minos of Crete used to impregnate his wife in order to produce the infamous Minotaur. As confirmation that Minos was indeed the legitimate successor to the kingdom, this bull was conveyed to him.
However, Minos did not offer Poseidon the bull as a sacrifice as he was meant to, and as a result, the ever-vengeful sea deity led Pasiphae, Minos’ queen, to develop feelings for the bull.
In a later version of the myth, Theseus of Athens travels to Crete in order to kill the terrifying Minotaur, which is described as having the body of a man but the head of a bull and the ability to breathe fire.
The Greeks saw Taurus as Zeus in disguise.
